Philippe Pessereau
Director of Vineyard Operations

"Through my career in the wine industry, I have really enjoyed working alongside people who share the common goal of growing the best possible grapes on a consistent basis. Every vintage has its twists and turns, and I have appreciated learning new aspects of farming and sharing knowledge with others." - Philippe Pessereau

A French native, Philippe hails from the Loire Valley, the wine region of Chinon and Vouvray. Following a keen interest in nature and an appreciation for wine, he studied viticulture and enology at Ch‚teau La Tour Blanche in the Sauternes wine region of Bordeaux before moving to California in 1987. Once in Napa Valley, Philippe gained invaluable experience at Buena Vista and Pine Ridge Wineries and then resumed his studies at UC Davis where he earned a Bachelorís in Plant Biology (1995) and a Masterís in Viticulture (1998).

Upon graduating, Philippe worked for Joseph Phelps Vineyards first as a viticulturist and later as Director of Vineyard Operations for wineries both in Napa and Sonoma counties. During his 19-year tenure at Phelps, he practiced sustainable, organic and biodynamic farming methods. Through these approaches, Philippe learned how to harness the potential of a vineyard, enhance its unique characteristics, and produce fruit that reflects the subtle and inherent qualities of a site.
